Earl Blumenauer will be a featured speaker at a gathering of, “….The region's top political strategists, elected officials, and movers and shakers.” This event is called Rebooting Democracy 08 and will take place on January 11-13 at Montgomery Park Atrium and Ballroom, 2701 NW Vaughn St. Portland, OR.

Blumenauer is scheduled to speak about 3:00 PM to greet all the guest.

I sent the following e-mail to them on Saturday, December 29:

Request that you not have Rep. Blumenauer welcome the people who come to your event. We have been picketing his office for over 22 weeks, every Thursday, because of his refusal to call for the impeachment of Dick Cheney/GW Bush. The Democratic Party of Oregon has called for impeachment hearings, and yet Rep. Blumenauer refuses to listen. The voting Democratic Party, as a whole by over 80% want impeachment hearings, yet Earl refuses to act.

To have Rep. Blumenauer greet the very people who work to elect progressives in our state would be an insult to us. We request a meeting be set up in the next few days to discuss our concerns. This is an honest attempt to resolve what could be an embarrassing moment for all of us.

Please respond within 5 days or we will presume you have denied our request and will base our plans on that conclusion.

I have not received any communication from the organizers of this event and can conclude they are not concerned about any action we would come up with, basically telling us to screw off. So, protest there will be.

We will gather at 1:30 PM to greet all these “Shakers,” with the theme of “No Accountablility--No Support.” Bring your own signs and say what you want to the arriving power brokers who will gather to tell each other how wonderful they are and how much they want good things for Portland and Oregon in general. They are in denial and we should tell them that the progressive movement would split down the middle if Bush and his minions were allowed to walk away in January of 09 without being held accountable. The itinerary does not even mention impeachment, or stopping all funding for the occupation and now genocide in Iraq. By us being there maybe someone like Thom Hartmann, (guest speaker/panelist) will bring up one of the two most pressing issues of our time to these would be progressives. IT IS TIME

We call on all groups in the Portland area to come and make the “Shakers” nervous by watching protesters outside their meetings, calling for real change and not the BS of the Earl-man!

We call on PDX Peace to come join us and demand all funds for the genocide in Iraq stop now!

We call on Jobs for Justice to tell the visiting “Shakers” that the treatment of the Portland custodians is outrageous. Unions must be supported.

We call all veterans groups to tell these would be progressives that the treatment of our beloved veterans is a disgrace and must be resolved today-now, not someday!

We call on all of our Individuals for Justice who have protested outside of the Earl-man’s office to wear your red shirts and shout Impeachment!

We call on the Grannies to say no more killing of any human beings for oil and profit.

We call on the 9/11 groups who want honest answers to what happened before, during and after the destruction of the Towers in NYC.

We ask that anyone attending wear their impeachment shirts and speak to all who will listen that accountability is the best tactic that the progressives can call for now.

It is time and we are all accountable to our kids, grandkids and if you are a believer--God herself.

These are the people who can bring lots of political pressure on all levels of government--will you take a few hours and stand with us to say, “We are the real progressives.”

I will be there with my sign; will you come and dance the dance of justice and peace?

PS You can call them and let it be known that Blumenauer is not a progressive, he is just another hack who must be replaced ASAP.
